Thank you for writing so beautifully about Mparntwe. I've just returned to the east coast after almost two and half years living and working in Mparntwe. Beautiful place and beautiful people. It breaks my heart to hear the negative press and silence.
It's really is a beautiful place, and the people we met were so generous. I appreciated hearing about your experience in Alice, thank you Deborah. It's not at all like the media portrays. I know there are difficulties here, but we felt safe and had a wonderful time.
So glad you felt safe there. Yes agree the people are so generous. It saddens me that the media portrayal is stopping people from visiting so wonderful to hear your positive experience
I find your writing so poignant and powerful, Jackie! We are living in truly tumultuous times. I love what you said here, and it's a thought that returns to me also again and again:
"This civilisation we find ourselves in is likely to collapse. Perhaps we can start to do things differently in anticipation, learn from the ancestors and the trees." <3
Thank you Stephanie. Sometimes I wonder whether I come on too heavy about what seems to me to be an inevitable collapse of our civilisation, but then I receive a comment like yours, and read all the other writers on Substack equally concerned and I feel a bit comforted. Not that it changes the inevitable, but that we are in this together and maybe there is hope we can do things differently based on ancient wisdom and a deeper relationship with the more than human world. And maybe something better will emerge ♥️🌳
It's a tough balance to strike, but I think you strike it rather beautifully Jackie. BBC has been doing coverage this week about Australia's wildlife extinction rates and it's so upsetting that I was lying in bed last night dwelling on it with an aching heart. So it's people like you who give me such hope, comfort, and solace. So please keep writing and telling your important stories and sharing your Earth-revering viewpoint. WE NEED IT. And may you know that it heals many! ♥️🌳♥️🌳♥️🌳
This means so much Stephanie, thank you. There's so much heartache in the world isn't there, everywhere we look 💔 . Yes we need each other, to know we are in this together and there are ways forward when we share our thinking and resources. I so appreciate your companionship and encouragement on this journey 🙏 ❤️ 🌳
Beautiful Jackie, and I love your images. Such a distinctly Australian colourscape! Mānawatia a Matariki from across the ditch ✨
Thank you Vicki, it's so easy to take good photos in the desert, it's so photogenic! Yes we're missing Matariki, enjoy ❤️
